YAKIMA, Wash. - Hundreds of local high school students are spending their summer vacation picking cherries.

According to the Washington Fruit Commission, this year's cherry harvest is estimated to be around 120 thousand tons and there are not enough pickers to keep up with the demand.

Local growers are turning to Worksoucre Yakima, a division of the State Employment Security Department, to fill picker positions with high school students.
