KENNEWICK, Wash.--Families and children lined up to see 40,000 rubber ducks plunge into the Columbia River today for the 19th Annual Tri-Cities Rotary Great Mid-Columbia Duck Race.
Lots of prizes including a 2008 Toyota Camry were up for grabs. This is the 19th year Tri-Cities rotary has sponsored the race. And they've never reached a duck adoption sell out. At least until this year.
"We met our goal. we've never done that before," mentioned Terry Fleischman. The crowd was incredible. The media was incredible. What a wonderful community to work in. Great support. And now we're going to be able to take those $200,000 dollars and distribute it over 50 or more service projects and charities throughout the community.
In the last 18 years, the Mid-Columbia Duck Race has raised over $2 million dollars for local charities and service projects.
