Thousands preserving oral history

PASCO, Wash.—Throughout history we've passed on stories of our families, communities and accomplishments, but how often do you wish you could remember a fine detail or better yet hear a tale from a relative who has passed away?  Now you can bring the past to the future by preserving it in the present.

The Northwest Public Radio sponsored organization, StoryCorps, is working to preserve oral history.  A StoryCorps MobileBooth is available for facilitators to conduct interviews between two loved ones.  The facilitator guides participants through a 40minute discussion covering anything the participants want preserved.  The interview is then documented onto a CD and given to the participants.

StoryCorps has conducted more then 35,000 interviews across the country.  They will be at the Pasco Mid-Columbia Library through August.  To make an appointment, call 1-800-850-4406.
