OLYMPIA, Wash.- Washington state lawmakers are optimistic about the renewal of a law allowing residents to deduct sales tax on their federal income tax returns.
Washington is one of eight states without income taxes, where sales tax can be deducted instead. Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray urged their colleagues to approve the bill Thursday night, but the house is still looking it over.
The tax deduction is estimated to have saved washington residents more than 500 million dollars last year. Both Cantwell and Murray are pushing for the renewal.
